Perfect gift for musically inclined toddlersOct 07, 2009

I play the violin and my daughter became very interested in my violin while watching me play! I wanted to find her something semi-realistic and durable. This is the cutest little violin. It's all plastic but it plays around 6 different songs (I believe) and my daughter loves to move the bow across the "strings" like she is playing it. She really gets a kick out of this toy. It's a good way to get your kids interested in music and getting the feel for playing. Some people said it's not that "realistic"... well... obviously!! If you trust your two-year-old to play with a real 500$ violin then you should get them a real violin. In my opinion - they are too young at 2 and 3 years old. Oh - and the songs it plays are very popular songs. They are ones that I played over and over again when I first started playing the violin. So they will get an idea of the rhythm and melody for when they start playing a "real" violin.

Kids love this violinDec 22, 2008
By N. Callahan I have this little violin in my special education preschool. It's very popular with the children and has held up to heavy use. While it can be challenging to play as a violin, it is also easy to manipulate in other ways. That makes it ideal for a group of children with a wide range of abilities.

An A+ Toy Violin!!!Dec 29, 2008

This is what my husband and I got for my 2 year old this Christmas, it is an awesome toy! It has a button to play different tunes all by itself, or it will play to match the stroke of the bow to the pretend strings so our 2 year old feels like she is really playing the tune! And it does sound like a violin. It is synchronized to play fast if the movement of the bow is fast, and plays slow accordingly. I am so thrilled with this toy. The colors are vibrant in purple and blue - very girlie. I don't know if they have it any other colors though, because a boy toddler who likes music could sure appreciate this too.

Made well, difficult to play even for an adultFeb 04, 2010
By J. Phan While this violin is of excellent quality, my three year old has difficult getting the instrument to make sound. I find it difficult myself, also. The violin has a rubber piece (the green square in the center of the instrument) that you move back and fourth using friction from the plastic bow. The plastic/rubber combination sometimes does not create enough friction to make the music play. If the violin has no input from the bow for a second or two it continues the tune automatically. This can get frustrating. I wish it gave you more time before it switched over to automatic.
Age wise, just turning three seems a little young to me for this toy, because of coordination issues. I'm not sure if the toy would hold the attention of kids much older due to the fact that the instrument doesn't generate any sound, it only plays pre-recorded sounds.
Bottom line, I don't hate it but my daughter doesn't use it very often either. She likes her toy guitar with real strings and real sound much better.

Good product to introduce string instrumentsDec 16, 2009
By Jonathen Bingham My son received this from his grandparents last year - he was ecstatic... as with many products, the excitement did wear off, but unlike most he keeps rediscovering it every other month or so. He is excited to get to play and puts on "concerts" for us. The only real disadvantage to this toy is its a little awkward for him to coordinate the bow while holding the body, but considering he is just 3, I would be shocked if it was easy for him. Great product!
