Quite simply, it's a classicSep 21, 2000
In addition to being fun, playing family games can be "quietly educational" (i.e., we know the kids are learning something, but it's not the overt purpose of the interaction). Yahtzee, a classic in its own gaming right, is also a wonderfully educational game. Consider how quickly young folks just beginning to grapple with addition and subtraction pick up the necessary skills when their score is on the line. Yahtzee is noisy, wonderful fun that everyone in our family enjoys. Unlike games targeted specifically for little ones (think Candyland and Chutes and Ladders), Yahtzee excites players old and young and in between. Happy gaming!

Get the Deluxe versionsOct 31, 2003

A year ago, I bought the original version and was immediately addicted. Yahtzee is a really fun game, however the dice are really cheap; the black paint in the number holes comes off easily and the dice themselves are too lightweight. My best advice to any future Yahtzee players is: buy either the Deluxe Edition or the Deluxe Game Folio Edition. The dice are better quality and the cups and playing trays each have felt lining so there's less noise when you roll. Pencils are also included. The best feature with the Game Folio Edition is that everything is stored in a convenient carrying case; You can pack it up and take it with you, which makes it great for travelling.

Great game at a great priceJan 06, 2004
By TRISH We got this game for our nine year old son for Christmas. We only had to play it with him a few times before he and his seven year old brother got the hang of it. Now they can play without any help from us. It is also a great game because it is one their dad and I like to play with them. Our two and four year old can even get in on the action by teaming up with one of us and rolling the dice for us. It is a great family game.

Classic FunJan 30, 2002
By Jody L. Schoth This is a classic fun game. We've always enjoyed this, and we've revised the rules for the toddlers to play. When we play with the toddlers, we simply go in order of the scorecard (ex: our first roll is to get as many one's as possible, then we write the amount on the scorecard).Sometimes for a little variety, when playing with adults, we revise the rules again. We've taken one scorecard and played "blackout," where we finish the entire scorecard and make it one game; we've played it the same as we play with the toddlers or young childred listed above; and we've played it the normal way. Yahtzee has always been a great family game, and it does improve math skills. Make your children add up their own dice and/or scores. Best of all, put away the calculators!! Enjoy!!

a classicJun 09, 2003

I got this game for my son and we have been playing it for years. Its a game I played as a child and loved. The thing about yahtzee is that it can be a very simple and straight forward game...as kids play it...or you can add some stragegy, more like adults play it... I got this regular edition instead of one of the fancier editions that are available from time to time. I would say that the box on the regular edition is pretty prone to not being all that sturdy.. I have had to tape the corners a few times. The *limited editions* i have seen seem to be a bit more well made. When I replace this game, it will probably be with one of those just for the sturdiness factor. That said..this is really the perfect family game. Easy for all but the youngest kids and fun for adults. It takes up little closet room when your storing it... (an issue when most kids games come in gigantic boxes)...it doesnt require a huge set up before playing (something that makes me nuts, altho doesnt seem to bother my son any) Its really perfect.
