Great guitar for 3-year-old!Aug 19, 2010
By Joe Philly I purchased one of these last week, when my almost-3-year-old son grabbed it off the shelf as we passed by in a shopping cart. My son likes electronic guitars, but he likes this one a lot more than the other two that we have. From the moment we bought it last week, he has spent about 30 mintues per day playing it, which is somewhat remarkable for a kid with a 3-year-old's attention span.
The toy changes from a guitar to a piano by depressing the yellow button while rotating the fretboard inward to the base. My son likes it in both configurations. He has figured out how to use the various features, like the piano keys, the three function keys, the guitar string-sounding depression, the lever that produces special sounds, and the slider that changes the style of music from rock to jazz to hop-hop. It also has a volume slider that I set on the low setting so it doesn't irritate everyone in the house.
Also, my 5-year-old daughter really likes it, which I didn't expect. I think she likes it because she can try to play little songs on the keyboard. The toy also has a feature that allows it to record a song that you play. I used it to record "Elmo's World" for my 3-year-old, and he could press the play button to hear it play back whenever he wanted.
Overall, this is a great toy, and I strongly recommend it to anyone with small children. When I bought it, I was hesitant to shell out $20, but I think it is well worth it considering how much my son likes it and uses it.

V Tech 3-in-1 Musical Band
I have purchased many toys over the past few years for my 4 grandsons ranging in age from 3 to 7. This is not the first Vtech toy I have bought for them. All of the toys produced by Vtech are still in one piece and still being played with. The 3 in 1 Musical Band is one of the best purchases in toys that I have ever made. What makes it even more impressive is that the company that manufactures this toy is one I consider to be top knotch when it comes to toys. They are toys but they are so very well made that one would think of them almost as if it were a high priced electronic item for an adult which can easily be used by a child. The price for this item is unbelievable. The toy was bought for my 3 year old grandson but when I received it I started playing with it. There are so many features included in the toy it was hard for me to put it away. Not wanting to give my grandson a toy with run down batteries I decided to let it go and save it for his birthday. I bought it because he likes to dance to the musical sounds of another Vtech toy that I purchased for him. The other Vtech toy does several different things besides playing music so the music does not stay on for very long. The 3 in 1 Musical Band does nothing but play music so he can dance and enjoy himself for a much longer period of time. There is a piano keyboard attached to the guitar that can come off and be played with by itself. When attached to the guitar the child can press down on one of the many keys and out come different sounds that go along with the selected mode of music. You can choose a rock tempo, a hip hop tempo and a concert tempo. There is a switch with 3 different settings regarding the sound level. I have it on the lowest and it is perfect. I have never seen a toy with so many unique ways of playing with it such as this one. It even comes with a strap that can be attached to the guitar to make it easier for the child to hold. What is even more amazing is the price. I paid 19.99 for this item on Amazon and I cannot think of any other toy that has this many features selling for 19.99. Most musical toys sound like toys. This one sounds like you are listening to someone who knows how to play real music. There are toys that sell for 4 times the amount of this one that do not come close to having as many features as this item does. Any child no matter what age would enjoy playing with it. Vtech has proven to me to be #1 when it comes to unique toys that keep children busy for quite a while. They create toys that even adults find interesting and yet they were designed for kids who love playing with them. I consider Vtech an upscale company when it comes to producing items that kids not only play with but also learn from and after playing with them come back again and again. This along with the other Vtech toys I have bought have not been relegated to the bottom of the toy chest or found under a piece of furniture after several months since no one bothered to look for it or even knew it was gone. If there are any children in your life that like innovative musical toys this is a must have. I am sure that I have not included all of the features that go along with this item because I did not want to drain the batteries. A toy given to a 3 year old must be ready to be played with immediately and batteries that work are essential.

V Tech 3-in-1 Musical BandDec 17, 2010
By May I purchased this toy first from Toy R Us for my son, who's 20 months old. He loves it, and my husband and I also love to join him to play with this toy as well. It has 3 types of music: rock, hip hop and jazz; and there're also three buttons for "concert", "jam" and "song". So there're several varieties there, plus you can (kinda) add your own touch using the drum sensor and the piano keys.
It has been a fun toy for dad, mom & baby. So much that i bought this from Amazon (to have free shipping w/ other toys) for my 2 yrs old niece for this Christmas.

Got caught wrapping by my 2 year oldNov 17, 2011
By N. Felton I ordered this toy for my 2 year old son who loves all things music (Yo Gabba Gabba, Fresh Beat band, sing alongs etc). I wanted to get him a toy that wasn't too technical and that he can play without really have to try to. He caught me wrapping it, and quickly pushed the "on" button. He loved it! I felt so bad that I had to take it from him. Luckily, he does not understand the idea of Christmas, Santa etc. Next year, I will be more careful to wrap at night :) All in all, this toy can grow with him, and since he enjoyed it right in the box I know he will have a blast once Santa leaves it for him under the tree. It seems very durable and I'm crossing my fingers that it will have good battery life (obviously it worked with the batteries it came with straight off the bat)Oh, and a forgiving note for us parents- there is a volume control button!!!Great toy!

Very good guitarJan 09, 2012
By MNdad Bought this guitar for my 3 1/2 year old daughter as a gift since she wanted a guitar. I bought her a "real" guitar last year and it lasted about a week before the neck broke off.
This toy is much more durable and she really likes the the keyboard/guitar combination, even if the guitar part doesn't have any strings.
I was hoping the song selection would be more like the Kidijamz Keyboard also by VTech, which is an awesome toy and has a huge selection of pre-programed songs, but it doesn't.
The only reason I didn't give this toy five stars is that it only has three songs, which while they are very good, get a little tiring to hear after awhile.
