Best of the lot...Nov 06, 2007
By asksimon Sure this one's a bit more than the other toy trumpets. But we had this one, it broke (after a year of daily use by our 1.5 year old boy). We replaced it with the cheaper one which broke in just a few weeks.
I just surprized my son with this one for his 3rd birthday. He was so excited to have his trumpet back.
If you looking for a toy trumpet that feels like real and has a nice sound - you will not beat this one!

DisapointedJun 22, 2009
By J. Tyler Firstly, I'm not a parent. I bought this Early Learning Centre (UK) toy to examine its potential as an educational tool. Of all the inexpensive toy instruments I've bought so far, I am most disappointed in this one. Many toy instruments are simply cheaper versions of real instruments capable of teaching children or even adults the gross basics of playing them. This is not the case here as this isn't even a trumpet but a four-note melodica shaped like a trumpet. It can play E5-A5-C#6-E6. Mine is surprisingly well tuned, off by at most 5Hz with A880 off by only 0.2Hz (2.5 cents)!
Its construction seams rugged and design suitable for a three-year-old but I foresee kids age 6 and over getting board with it quickly. I haven't had problems with the valves yet and it makes sound easily with little effort. Judging from other reviews I may have gotten lucky. The body appears to be chrome plated ABS while the mouthpiece, buttons and valve covers are cheaper polystyrene(colors differ from the picture). The valve covers are glued with industrial adhesive so it can't be disassembled without breaking it. Mine is not yet broken so I can only assume the reeds are brass and the valves are plastic with steel springs and poly foam seals. Condensation must be air-dried. There are two finger rings for gripping with the non-playing hand.
Comparison:
The Schylling Toys Piano Horn (ASIN: B000RC2XB0) is 3 times more useful and 1/4 the price, and also has superior valve design. For school-aged children (6 and up) I can recommend the Hohner 32 Note Melodica Key Board (ASIN: B000BD5O5M); $5 more expensive but concert quality and useful unto adulthood. It seams a real quality toy trumpet costing less than $30.00 has yet to be invented. The most affordable real trumpets of any worth are over $100.00 new. The Noteworthy Bb Student Trumpet (ASIN: B001RLMBPI) or Conductor Bb Student Trumpet (ASIN: B000BUX3BC) are your best bet but because of their size, weight and complexity are probably best suited for children ages 9 and up.

Good toy trumpet. Made of plastic but realistic looking. Plays like a toy, but has good working buttons and good range of sound. Good for the price.

Not worth the priceAug 07, 2009

I bought this for my daughter's third birthday.
She LOVES a cheap trumpet that we purchased over a year ago at the local drug store for a couple bucks. That trumpet lasted a little over a year until she stepped on it (for the millionth time) and broke it. Although I glued it back together I thought I'd buy her a new "more advanced" trumpet for her birthday.
She likes this trumpet but would just as well play with the old one. This one is easier for her to blow but her hands are too small for her to hold it comfortably and press the buttons. Therefore she can't continuously change notes. Overall it is too big for an average sized 3 year old.
I hope as she gets older she plays with and enjoys this trumpet more than she does presently. I reget purchasing it for the price paid. It is literally 6 times more than the drug store trumpet that she enjoys more than this one.
As for the durability, we've only had it for two months so haven't really "tested" the durability. It appears average quality. Hopefully it doesn't break prior to my daughter really enjoying it!
I would recommend for ages 4 (maybe 3 1/2) and up.

Great for just regular old playingJun 12, 2011

I think the reviews about pitch and sound is putting too much pressure on a $10 trumpet for kids. I am surprised that it has four individual notes and I think they sound great. I mean, what do you want? If you want your kid to join in the parade for your town, this might not be your trumpet, but if you want your small child to learn to appreciate music and how to put their lips on it (my son about swallows the mouth piece, but he gets better sound, so whatever), this is totally the trumpet for you. It is durable as all get out and the only problem I see so far is that the fourth note, the highest one, is a little harder to blow than the other three. He plays it all the time, take that rude neighbors!!
