Board does not even qualify to be a boardDec 27, 2011

This board is about the thickness of cereal box cardboard. Very warped and will not straighten, not even with an iron - totally useless - do not buy unless you just want the classic cheap pieces.

Cheap GarbageDec 01, 2011
By Truthbetold Chess set is inexpensive, so I wasn't expecting much. The pieces are hollow plastic, but ok. The board is such thin cardboard, that it was already warped upon arrival. I purchased a similar set at a dollar store, and the board was about 3 times thicker, and never a problem. I guess if you only have a few dollars, this will work. But there are other inexpensive sets of better quality.

There is no reason to buy this set ~ AT ALL!Oct 07, 2009

This set isn't worth it. Especially for $6.
Check the web, there are good quality tournament sets for $4 to $7 for the pieces and $4 to $7 or so for a good vinyl rool-up board. The few extra dollars are going to get you a set light years ahead of this joke.
You want to have 2 1/4" squares of green and buff (blue, brown, or black is OK too) and pieces with a king that is 3 3/4" and off-white or yellowish for white and black for black. Don't get any colored sets unless you have a very specific reason, as you will not be able to use them in a tourney if the other guy complains (ie, pink and green or something like that is out of the question).
Most of these sets will be sturdy plastic, weighted a little (or more if you pay a few dollars more), and have some sort of felt on the bottom. This Pressman set is vulnerable to a sneeze as it is hollow cheap plastic of the "step on it and it is destroyed" type with completely open bottoms.
Sorry to be so negative, but you couldn't pay a chess player play with this set...it is that bad. -5 stars!

Suitable for the MoneyFeb 04, 2012
By Kate in Cincinnati I purchased several of these for a kids' chess club and they work just fine. I did not find them to be as flimsy as cereal boxes, as another reviewer claims. The board doesn't always lie entirely flat until after a few rounds of play, but they fold down to be very small, so for a chess club, they work great. They are suitable enough for casual play and work well for teaching kids.

its okayJul 09, 2010
By E it is a really cheap set, the board was flimsy and bent when I received it and the pieces are extremely light and hollow, but it still works as a cheap set. Personally, I just bought it for the pieces to use on a more sturdy board I have; maybe others will have better luck with the board.
