5One of the Best of the Playmobil Dinosaur SetsJan 07, 2011
By goonius
For the MSRP (or below), I think this is one of the best of the Playmobil dinosaur sets. Do note, however, that this set is currently being sold *above* MSRP on Amazon. Shop around. Other stores are having fantastic clearance sales on these discontinued sets right now.

The star of the show is, of course, the T-Rex himself. He is a wee bit smaller than the Spinosaurus - which is, in terms of scale, is the way it should be -- but he is also still a fabulously large dinosaur. He's guaranteed to tower menacingly over all the little Playmobil people and his two Velociraptor companions. I'd estimate his size to be somewhere around (and mind you this is just an estimate) 11-12" long and about 9" tall. His coloration and detail is perfect -- quite realistic. His toes and eyes aren't nearly as garishly red as some of the photos would suggest. His arms, legs, and mouth all move (though his tongue isn't mobile as the Spinosaurus tongue is). His arms, yes, may fall off with rough play, as is true of the Spinosaurus which we also own. They also pop back on easily, though I suppose if he were continually abused they could, in theory, become much looser in his sockets. I think his quality is superb, and am equally pleased with him as I have been every dinosaur in Playmobil's collection. We own them all. In fact, these are the only realistic-looking dinosaurs I can find not made of toxic PVC-plastic in China. Playmobil dinosaurs are made of ABS, which is inherently free phthalates, BPA, and continually tests as being free of lead cadmium and the other nasties that plague China-manufactured toys these days.

Other accessories in this set include the two Velociraptors - which are roughly the height of a Playmobil person. Their arms and legs move, but not their mouths. There is also a tree-root/cave sort of structure for the Velociraptors or any other small animal to hide in. It's actually a pretty cool bit of scenery, one of the better ones in these sets. There is also a small area of water and green terrain and dirt terrain, all with neat-looking prehistoric plants and a tree. And finally there is an orange lizard, a green snake and a super-cool Triceratops skull. My daughter was very excited about the latter accessory. Bones, apparently, are super-interesting.

Bottom line: For the right price, you simply can't go wrong with this set. Very cool.

This Playmobil set is made in Europe.

I grew up in Germany playing with Playmobil. My son just turned 4 and I purchased some Playmobil dinos. Awesome toys. Tough as nails. I highly recommend it!

The toy is excellent and exciting for my grandson. But, the delivery of the toy by the destributor was not good. First, received a notice of shipping, but the notice did not have a link to track the shipment. Second, the shipment supposedly got lost before Christmas. But, once notified, the company did resent the product quickly.
