Extra guests left outFeb 20, 2006
By J. Davis This is the second murder mystery game we've played and while we had fun, we thought this one could have been better. The story line was fine, the menu was good, and the decorations were easy to make or buy. We had fun playing the game and we didn't think the mystery was unsolvable (even though only one person guessed correctly). We had a good time with our horrible accents and people did a good job with their costumes.
The part we were disappointed in was the "Extra Players" part. This game is actually for 6 players, even though it says you can invite 8. We invited 3 other couples to the party, and the couple that played the extra parts (Father Alfredo and Clair Voyant) felt very left out. They had very few lines, weren't suspects in the mystery, and their parts were pretty lame. I felt this game could have included them more if they had better parts, even if they still weren't suspects in the mystery. I would suggest that if you have friends who aren't likely to get into the game to give them the extra players' parts. They can easily sit by the wayside and not do much and still enjoy what the other players are doing.
Overall it was fun and I enjoyed the Italian/New York theme, but just keep in mind that it's really a game for 6.

The Best Night!Oct 04, 2004

My husband and I played this game with our Gourmet Club. Everyone came dressed as their character with props and all. I used chalk to trace the "dead" body on my kitchen floor and placed the pistol in a ziploc bag and sealed it with "Evidence" tape I had accuired from a detective friend. I also used the tape to make my napkin rings. I did use the included menu created by Sandra Gluck and it was delicious!! Each guest brought one of the items on her menu (Garlic Roasted Bean Dip, Onion Topped Boboli, Baked Ziti, and Mocha Cake with Ricotta Cream). We played the CD "Mob Hits" from amazon.com, had lit candles, Chianti in the basket bottles and plenty of fun. The party lasted 4.5 hours, so not too bad! You and your friends will laugh sooo hard, just don't invite party poopers!

A Killer Evening!Apr 09, 2004
We invited 3 of our couple friends to be the guests for the evening. We played Italian music in the background-- the theme from The Godfather was perfect! All of our guests took time to dress up; one of our guests (in his vinter role) even brought his own wine glass and stained his fingers a purplish color! We had each couple bring a pizza and a bottle of wine; we served appetizers and dessert! What a blast. Took photos and mugshots (a line up of all the suspects against the wall). It DID take a lot more work to host and play a role, but it was a delight for everyone! We spent hours playing the game, but it was a lot of laughs and the ending was a great surprise! Just relax and invite friends who love to let their hair down!

Needed a bit more instructionJan 28, 2002

My guests arrived in their designated costumes, and all had a great time in just the preparation of their characters. The guests chose to help me out by preparing some of the dishes. We went straight out of the book. The mushroom salad was not enough to feed the eight I had in attendance. The green beans needed to be cooked longer than the book suggested. The onion topped Boboli was a hit!! No one knew if the roasted peppers were to be served as an appetizer, salad or main course...we live in Texas. The character books need to be written in first person,(the you's need to be replaced with I's), as the guests were very dependent on their scripts. We didn't get in to the challenging very well until the third round and only because one of my guests had been to a mystery dinner before.

EntertainingMar 03, 2006
By snowangel13_13 This was our 1st time hosting and participating in a murder mystery. We had 8 people. Had I known that the 2 extras wouldn't have much of a part, I would not have invited 2 people to play those parts. They weren't able to participate much in the questioning or the dialogues. I would recommend playing with only 6 people unless the host wants to take an insignificant role so they can take care of the dinner. Even though the extras didn't have much of a part, they still claimed to have fun. It took us about 3-4 hours to play. I served dinner in between dialogues and I think that is how to drag it out to 3-4 hours.
The only issue I have with this game is the cost. If someone could come up with a murder mystery game that changed the murderer and the plot up a little every time, I think it would be worth the $30 I paid for it. As it is, $30 for one time is a bit much for a game. However, it was fun and you'd probably spend that much going to out to eat. This way, you get to eat and solve a mystery.
