Great puzzle, but M&D had a bad batch.Mar 23, 2010
By Rachel Clark I bought this puzzle and the Melissa & Doug Rainforest Jigsaw 48 pcs Puzzle for my son's 5th birthday. He loved it the first time he put it together.
Unfortunately, it didn't last longer than that. The back piece was warped, and the frame separated from the backboard within hours of opening the shrink wrap. I sent it back for a replacement, and the replacement did the same thing. I'll be sending it back for a different design.
The rain forest puzzle is still a hit and we didn't have the warping problems with it. The sturdy wooden pieces are great, if a little tough to break apart and snap together. These puzzles are perfect for the pre-K and K set - not easy peasy, but not too difficult to get together before getting frustrated or bored.
In summary, it is a fantastic puzzle. Just skip the the space themed one until the wood issue is resolved.

Great puzzle!Jan 11, 2010
By JohnnyC Santa Claus brought this to our almost-4-year old son this past Christmas, and it is a great puzzle.
Very sturdy, the pieces fit together with precision, and the scene is colorful and interesting. What I like best is the fact that this is a difficult puzzle, yet the design, if you look at it, gives many clues to help the child figure it out on his/her own. You can knock 5 pieces out by doing planet earth, and other small batches of pieces here and there, until he realizes he's done almost 40 pieces and is in the home stretch.
I agree fully with the previous reviewer. 48 pieces is an excellent interim puzzle size, big enough to challenge, yet not overwhelm.
It has been a real joy watching our son -- who also likes the space shuttle and outer space, I should add -- learn how to do this puzzle himself.
And $9.99 for a quality toy like this is a steal!

By Mama to three When first breaking apart the pieces of this puzzle, you need to be very careful you do not tear the picture off of the wooden piece. It can happen easily. I must say Amazon sent me another puzzle on my word alone and then had me send back the damaged puzzle. I have purchased several Melissa and Doug items and am always happy with the quality.

By lv2teach I have been teaching for more than 20 years and needed some new wooden puzzles for my class. These were just right and I love the colorful graphics on them. The price was very reasonable.

Not Melissa & Doug's Best PuzzleOct 14, 2011
By Zucca We are a huge fan of M&D and have many puzzles but this one misses the mark. Maybe the age/skill level is wrong for our daughter (3+) but one obvious missing thing is a picture that our daughter can refer to while doing the puzzle. She's independent with many puzzles in part because she can refer to the final picture. In this case, the picture is glued onto the back of the board. She'll get this with practice of course but it would make the puzzle more versatile if they had included a picture we could have taped on the back and taken off when working on the puzzle.
