best gift everAug 20, 2010
I visited my grandson, aged 3 1/2 for a week, and gave him this crane. He was beside himself! He thanked me a few times every day, saying " Thank you so much Meme, for this crane trunk. I am so lucky!" He played with it constantly, lifting his Thomas trains when they "crashed", his cars, whatever he could think of. It seems to be indestructible! I can't wait for Christmas to find something similar.

At first sight, this toy looks like it's gonna be tons of fun. After exploring it for a few minutes, you quickly find out that there isn't all that much you can do w/it. Lots of molded plastic, but little of it has any functionality. My kid got bored w/it very quickly.
Features:
Viewable engine compartment (front cab lifts forward)
Boom, rotates, extends, variable height (this is it folks!!)
String reel has a quick release & there is a metal hook on the end of the string
Wheels spin fwd/back, but only straight (not left/right)
Sturdy enough to lift other toys (cars, trucks, trains, ..)
One compartment door that opens (really?, only ONE on this large toy)
Cons:
Expensive
String reel: No string tensioner, so the string easily gets jumbled when let loose. Also, it is hard to release for kids.
Doors don't open/close (this is crimminal for such a large toy)
Steering wheel doesn't turn
No lights (it has several siren lights that look like they could work, but don't)
No sounds (for those that don't like sound, don't put batteries in the toy)
Support legs must be unsnapped from the back of crane and slid onto the sides of the crane (lame and so easy to lose).

I bought this for my son's 4 year birthday, he loves it, although he did got frustrated because sometimes the string would mess up if he didn't operate it right. Over all it is a nice purchase, the quality is very good, I recommend it.

My son had his eye on this truck for a while. He plays with it daily now that it's in our home. He likes all the realistic functions, like the support legs, the metal hook, the cab over design that tips forward to access the motor, and the boom extends just like the real thing. Not sure of the educational value, but it wasn't purchased with that in mind. Great toy!

what a wonderful crane /truck. sturdy, very detailed and very cool to play with. my 18 month old and 4 year old fight over who is going to hoist toys up with the crane. Looks like I need to buy another one ! The fact that it is NOT MADE IN CHINA is very appealing the build quality is great and I feel reassured that it is a 'safe'toy.
