Great toy!Aug 21, 2007

These are hard plastic, not soft as the heading states. Having said that, my two year old has hardly stopped playing with it in the last few weeks and even my seven year old boy will play along. You can play the obvious shopping and cooking games but you can also learn colors, practice counting, group according to categories and many other creative ideas. The items are all very well made and are holding up to daily use very well. I really like the fact that they are made of hard plastic and not the thin, "squashable" kind like a lot of play food. The items are really detailed, too. The pineapple even has a removable core! Bottom line; I plan on buying more of this type of play food!

This is genius!Mar 17, 2009
By Spin360 We just got this in the mail today and it is fantastic!
My 12yo son is playing with my 1yo daughter. They are having a blast with this. These fruits and veggies "peel" and "chop." There is a handy canvas tote to put everything back in so my daughter can fill and spill too. As for the toy itself, the peeling is easy. However my 1yo can't quite figure out how to get the skins back on... it is a developmental thing and not a toy problem at all.
My one concern is that maybe the velcro would come off after many "choppings", but it seems pretty durable, so it might be a non-issue.
I really like that these fruits and veggies are common and recognizable for what they are suppose to be. For example, the corn looks like a corn with a husk. The orange is my favorite because the skin peels, and the orange segments too. It might've been a tiny bit more fun for the onion to have layers, but I'm not really complaining because it is choppable in the way one would cook.
What a fantastic idea. I hope I-Play makes other sets similar in style to this one.

Great Toy Veggies!Mar 22, 2007
By Vinnie These veggies are not "soft" as described in the title, but my daughter loves them! The Velcro is nice because as you chop them with the toy knife, they make a nice crunch sound like real veggies would.

Disappointed in size/scaleNov 10, 2010
By Linda I ordered this for my 2 year old and he probably just wasn't ready for it. I've seen the wooden food with the velcro and liked those. I knew these were plastic but I thought it would be good to start out with. The bag it comes in is adorable and the pieces are of accurate color and the velcro works well. I guess what I was a little disappointed in was the scale and size of the food. It's all much smaller than I thought and they aren't in proportion to each other. IE: head of lettuce is smaller than the banana. The outer pieces are also fairly complicated to line up properly (like cover to banana or corn cob) so I definitely think it would work for older toddlers and children with the expectation that they are smaller

Lots of fun learning and experiencing for my 2 year oldOct 20, 2011
By Linda My 2 1/2 year old enjoys playing with these fun fruits and vegetables. Here's what we received:
Peach you can cut in half, you can see the pit inside.
Banana you can peel three times.
Orange you can peel four times and then cut into four segments.
Cauliflower you can peel twice to get the greens off and then cut in half.
Cabbage you can peel two outer leaves off.
Ear of corn you can peel three times.
Onion you can slice twice.
Bean pod you can open to expose the beans.
We did not receive the pineapple shown in some of the pictures. We still really like the set!
My little one knew exactly what to do as soon as he saw the play knife and the fruits and vegetables. He has no trouble peeling but needs some help stabilizing the item he's cutting, I'm sure he'll get better with practice. He is mostly able to get them back together on his own. I like that he is able to recognize each item, they are realistic looking. This is a great learning toy!
