Poor Quality, Poor ManufacturingMay 25, 2011
By KReiss We researched play kitchens quite a bit before purchasing this one. Our goal was to find a wooden play kitchen that would be fun for our toddler now, but big enough to grow into and still hold interest for a few years. After reading many reviews, and considering price points we decided to go with this one. I wish we had decided to invest in a solid wood set instead.
Cons- poor construction/manufacturing/quality control: Upon opening the box we discovered several pieces that were marred, damaged and broken- it did not appear that any of the defects were "in-transit" accidents, as the packaging was intact and the pieces were well wrapped. On two of the parts it didn't really matter because they were facing the back or hidden once put together, but the stove top and counter had a huge gouge in the surface, and part of the plexiglass that makes up the "burners" was broken off, leaving a sharp and jagged edge. Clearly, quality control at the factory is lacking. We contacted the seller (Toy Box Classics) who wonderfully handled the situation and quickly had replacements shipped. When we finally got to put together the kitchen we discovered that many of the pre-drilled holes did not exactly meet up with their counterparts, leaving some gaps and uneven areas between the sections. Some of the surface veneers had bubbles or areas where they didn't quite meet the edges. Additionally, the hinges that hold the doors on are extremely small and flimsy- definitely not sturdy enough to support the weight of the MDF doors. After only two weeks of use the door to the refrigerator splintered off the hinge. If you do purchase this kitchen, plan on getting some bigger hinges and rigging the doors yourself.
Pros- it's pretty large in scale compared to most play kitchens, and it's an attractive design with lots of cute features.
It's unfortunate that the quality is so poor that it won't last long enough for kids to get years of use out of it.

Great Kitchen!Oct 21, 2010
By JJ This is a great looking kitchen with lots of storage and counter space to play. This is slightly longer than the Kidkraft or Melissa and Doug kitchens which provides more storage and play surface. Very well constructed. People that have seen it always give good praise on the looks. My son loves it! Has lots of doors (he likes to open and close doors, and Mommy loves them because they can hide things). The assembly took about 2.5 hrs., the most time consuming part, according to my husband, was the last few steps, but instructions were clear. Highly recommend it especially if you have a boy because I haven't found too many good looking kitchens that are not pink!

Perfect for Two Kids!Dec 13, 2010
By MountainTopMama Several years ago, we'd purchased a small, wooden kitchen (Educo) for our oldest child, who was then a young toddler. It was great for a few years, but now she's 4-1/2, and we also have an almost two-year-old. The kitchen we had before was just too small for them to both play with at the same time.
We wanted a nice wooden kitchen that was affordable and well-made, and most importantly, big enough for both the kids to play with side-by-side. I looked at a lot of different wooden kitchens, and kept coming back to this one, because it was so big, and never found another that was as large, for this price.
So I was thrilled when this one arrived. Yes, it is time consuming to put together, but it's so well worth it! It's obvious that it's high quality, and will last many years. There were a few tiny dings on a corner here and there, but nothing that was obvious once the kitchen was put together.
The countertops have a really nice marbled look to them, and are very thick. The white board on the fridge door is really cute. ETA: It's metal and holds magnets! Just like a real fridge. Only took us a year and a half to discover this. Ha! But what a great surprise. :)
The knobs all click when you turn them. And the sink is plastic, with no holes, and removable, so if one of my girls poured water in it, it would be fine. All the edges are smooth, and the colors are vivid and really cute.
There is TONS of storage space in all the compartments. Our Melissa & Doug cookie pan fits in the oven perfectly. The hooks behind the cooktop are rather thick, and more for show than anything, I think, but they're cute. The only quasi-negative is the red telephone that rests on the top left side (by the microwave). It's wooden, and heavy, and doesn't really serve much purpose (other than a potential projectile for our toddler). But that's no big deal either.
Overall, we are extremely pleased with this kitchen. It's the biggest one I found that we could afford, and I know that my kids will get years of use out of it. Right now, our toddler has to stand on a small stool to reach the upper cabinets, but our preschooler has no problem reaching things on top. It's definitely a kitchen that will accommodate their needs for a long time.
Some assembly tips: you will need a Phillips head screwdriver with a small head, for the tiny screws that hold the door hinges. A magnetic screwdriver is also very handy. If you can have someone help you when installing the doors, that will make things easier. I put the whole thing together myself (I'm pretty small), but my husband had to help hold the doors when it came time to attach them. And it's easier to put all the handles on before you install the doors.

Sturdy & Adorable!!!Mar 09, 2011
By Christie C. Brown I researched kitchens for weeks, wood, plastic, new & used! I finally decided on this one and have been very happy! Guidecraft kitchens got great reviews and this one was more affordable than their solid seperates. Our kids play area is in our livingroom. So the appearance was a factor. The colors of this kitchen are very pleasant. There's a ton of space for storage. This kitchen is a little longer and taller than average. We have 2 children, ages 3 & 1, they can play with it together and it is tall enough that they shouldn't outgrow it for a couple years. It is very sturdy. It took forever to assemble it, but that is the one complaint I read about most wooden kitchens. We also let it "air out" in our porch for a few days, because it's not solid wood it had a slight chemical smell. Both our kids love playing in this kitchen!

STUNK UP MY ENTIRE HOUSE!Feb 06, 2011
By simplemama Nice kitchen design but the materials were off-gassing so badly that my entire house had air pollution. I had to disassemble and store it in the basement after just a few hours. The last thing I want from a play thing is for my children to be engulfed in toxic fumes. The smell was making me physically ill. Will not be keeping this toy and will be forced to sell since returning is not an option after assembly.
