I have purchased many play sets for my daughter, who is 7, from my little pony to littlest pet shop to the fisher price houses and sets. This is by far the best and most detailed! I would not recommend it for children under 4 because of the tiny (and I mean TINY) pieces but the details are just amazing that come with the accessories. Everything is very well made and I love that all the drawers and cabinets open. Also the details like you open the bottom of the sink and there is the pipe going from the sink to the bottom of the cabinet! From the little cutting board to the little forks and knives to the jelly jars, my daughter loved all those little details. I have also heard some say that the house is too small. Granted, it is a bit small in the rooms but she has no complaints about that. She sets them up just fine and doesn't feel the need to use every single piece of furniture in the house at once. I would like to add a larger house to her collection later on but for now this is just fine. I also think the lights with switches on the walls are very nice and look great at night. I do wish all 4 rooms had lights but the other two have a place on the ceiling to put a "portable" little light they include that you can switch back and forth. I wish they included two instead of one though so each room could have its own light as the rooms are a bit dark without one. All in all is very sturdy and well made house, I can see this lasting many years and being handed down.
We purchased this and the cabin as well as a few other extra packages of furniture and animals and between both the houses they came with plenty of accessories. I would also recommend purchasing a kitchen set with this as it comes with quite a bit of kitchen stuff and no kitchen furniture to store it. I also recommend the set with the "working" television and fireplace called "Calico Critters Living Room Accessories Set", that is my daughter's favorite so far! It comes with a light up "flickering" tv with a few inserts to change the show, a piano with sheet music and light up fireplace. As far as just a starter though, this town home gift set comes with everything you need and can always add to it slowly. I buy most things at Amazon.com but I was lucky to find this for $119. on sale for Christmas elsewhere so shop around a bit or wait for the price to come down if it seems a bit steep.

Got this for our 3 year old granddaughter. She loves it. It was very easy to set up, she plays with it everyday.
