I'm Hooked!Jan 19, 2006
By J. Green The Cottontail Rabbit family set is the first Calico Critter set I bought for my daughter.... oh, I'll be honest.... they were for me as much as for her. And they are absolutely darling. I'm not really into collectibles, but these little guys are so cute they make you want more.
As other reviewers have mentioned, they seem to be really well made. Their tiny little outfits can be taken on/off and traded with other critters' clothes. The outfits have tiny little buttons, lace, and ribbons (I had trouble retying Sorrel's apron with my big fingers). The boys' clothes even have holes in the back for their little tails to poke out.
Their little heads, arms, and legs all bend. They all have really cute features and the fuzzy bodies are great.
My daughter is only two and a half (under the recommended age), so I have to help her dress the dolls. She loves to take their clothes off herself, though :-) The furniture and play sets all have tiny pieces and with a two year old and a soon to be mobile infant, I've decided to pack away all of the tiniest accessories for a few years. The dolls and the bigger pieces of furniture seem to be safe for my daughter and the baby, though.
The Cottontail family is living in my daughter's Little People house right now and, although it isn't a perfect fit, they seem comfortable for the time being..... while I try to refrain from buying one of the Calico Critters houses.

Calico CrittersNov 03, 2002
Calico critters are really really cute! They are soft and fuzzy and come in many little animals-chipmunks, squirrels, cats, dogs, and lots more. I don't own a house, but I just think that having the critters is enough. I have a whole box of them that I collect. These are great toys. I encourage you to buy them-for gifts, for you, for whatever!

Great toy, but needs minor improvementDec 04, 2009

We got the Cottontail Rabbit Family for my daughter and she loves them. They are cute and pretty durable (unlike our grandparent fisher cats). My only con with the family is that some of the clothing (especially for the girls) could have been made with a little piece of velcro to keep it on the critter. Instead, they have tiny ribbon for you to tie around the neck or waist (for aprons), which is nearly impossible to tie without tying it into a knot. The company put velcro to close the backs of trousers and dresses, so I don't see why they can't put a little piece on the aprons and the little girl rabbit's dress too.
Overall this is a wonderful toy and I'd purchase it again.

By Carrie Wanta Nice, but when taking off the clothes which my 4 year old daughter likes to do, the strap on the trousers broke on the second time playing with it. The clothes are too tiny for me to mend, Otherwise my 4 yr old and 2 yr old LOVE playing with them, they are cute!

So Cute and Fun to CollectFeb 13, 2007
By Sage Foothill We started my daughter's Calico Critter collection when she was 3, and she loves it (she's now 5-1/2). She's always been very gentle with the whole collection, loves to undress and dress them, arrange their dollhouse and accessories. Don't know what the reviewer with the 6-yr-old daughter did to trash the critters and get the fuzz off, but that kid must have been really rough with them - we find them very sturdy and you'd have to drag them across concrete to rub the fuzz off. I guess these are best with gentle, detail-oriented children. We love em.
