My kids, girl (age 2) and boy (age 4) love, love, love our first Calico Critter family; however, I wish the 'boy' Chris has a 'boy' outfit instead of pink overalls, and so does my son. We love the detail, moving body parts so they can pose them, ability to undress and 'take a bath', etc. Daily hours of non-battery operated, imaginative play. I found it very insightful to see them 'reenact' real life scenarios with their own twist. Effective way to work out emotions and make sense of the world thru their eyes. Wonderful, super cute cat family that my boy and girl both love. And mommy has lots of fun playing too!

This is the first set of Calico Critters that my toddler got. She got them when she was 18 months old and she had them for about 3 months now. She plays with them almost every day. At the beginning, we introduced the set to her as mama cat, papa cat, little girl cat and little boy cat. She immediately understood that these cats are one family and started to use the mama cat to kiss the little girl cat. Then, she showed that the cats would interact with each other and 'play'. I was afraid that she will be too young for this but she definitely enjoys them. O, I did not give it 5 stars for durability because my little one loves to take off the cats' clothes and I don't think the clothes are holding up well. Also, the tip of the cats' ears and the tails are definitely taking a beating. My little one does not put toys in her mouth; the wear is from normal play. Overall, I would recommend this set for toddlers but I would also like to suggest that non-Calico Critter furniture/accessories be used with them. Some Calico Critter accessories are too small for a toddler to handle. We find that Melissa and Doug wooden playhouse and furniture fits the Critters well and can be easily handled by a toddler without any frustration.

Calico Critters are well-made toys perfect for imaginative play!Feb 16, 2012

My seven-year-old has been playing with the Calico Critters for several years. Like many other kids, she goes through phases of playing with some toys and then setting them aside in favor of others. The Calico Critter toys are special in that she returns to them quite frequently. I love that this series has so many toys that can be added to one's collection. We have many of the critter families now, and rotate them around when my daughter plays house with them.
The toys are well-made - the critters come dressed with outfits that can be removed (they have velcro backing), they are made of a material that is sturdy and yet covered with fuzz, and the family sets have a mother, father, son, and daughter. One can also purchase the baby twin sets for the various critter families to complete a collection. These toys are great for imaginative play, where a child can sit for a length of time and create a fantasy world where little critters frolic and play. Other Calico Critter playsets often come with little accessories (not these family sets) so those are probably more suited for ages 5 and up.

My Daughter now 30 is the one who found these. She was so excited! I started buying her these was she was 7 years old. Needless to say she loved them as a child and providing endless enjoyment of play time for her and her friends...leaving her today still with the fond memory. So of course now being a Mother herself she wanted her own Daughter to have these also. I bought this set for her Daughter for Christmas...she is 6...she loves them too! It is so great to see not only a Family Traditon Toy being passed on to the Grandkids but that even all theses years later this is still a great toy and filled with much imagination and fun playtime! I will be buying more Collections of these for her and buying these for my other 4 year old Grandaughter too! Good purchase, excellent quality, and highly recommended!
