very cute and well madeDec 10, 2010

As with all Calico Critter products this tea cup ride costs a pretty penny however the ride moves, it comes with two babies and provides interactive fun. When you press the button the teacups spin which is really cute. The babies have sweet little faces and are well made which of course is expected with Calico Critters. My daughter loves the babies the most so this was a must for her collection. She is trying to set up the ultimate playground for her little critters which I think is a good project. Costly but worth it for the Calico Critters fan.

Stiff to turn, but overall a great toySep 12, 2011
By agyes I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. It was disappointing at first - too stiff for her to turn. With a little WD40 it works great! She loved the little critters and gave up her favorite monkey to sleep with them the first night.

Fun Playset with a Few Minor QuibblesOct 30, 2012

I've always thought these Calico Critters toys looked adorable and like something my little girls would love. At normal retail, I feel like they're a bit overpriced, but when this set went on sale at Amazon for about 1/4 its normal cost, I bit.
The little baby critters in this set are incredibly cute and my daughters (2 & 3-years-old) love them. They come with tiny little clothes for the critters, which both girls kept taking off and then insisting we put back on. The clothes have a tie-string to put them on, and after about 30 minutes of repeatedly dressing tiny little figures, we were tired of retying the itty-bitty strings and just hid the clothes. The good news is that even naked, the critters are still cute. Once the girls are older and can tie the clothes themselves (or maybe just listen when we say, "If you take that off, I'm not going to put it back on for you," for the hundreth time), we'll get them back out.
The teapot and cups spin, but not super smoothly. This is plastic on plastic, after all; not precision ball bearings. Due to the design, it's fairly impossible to use only one hand to turn the crank and make the cups spin. Instead, you'll need to hold the base of the ride with one hand while turning the crank with your other. My 3-year-old can do it fine. The 2-year-old is still trying to master that.
Aside from that, my only other minor negative was the build quality of the critters themselves. Having never bought one of these sets before, I was surprised that (for the normal retail price), the critters are made out of a hollow plastic and the fuzz looks to have been simply coated onto them in a thin layer. It reminds me of the spray-on "soft" texture used on many cellphone cases, except a bit fuzzier. It comes off if you pet/rub an area too much, scrape it against something too hard, or try to eat one of the critter's ears (we've experienced all three situations in my household, where playtime apparently consists of love, war, and cannibalism), leaving a smooth, shiny plastic surface showing through underneath.
Those negatives are minor issues, though, which is why I'm still giving this a 4-star review. My children are younger than the average (and recommended) age for these toys, so I don't hold the fuzz coming off against the company. I do wish the overall build quality had been a bit more impressive for what they cost at the standard retail pricing. I was planning to buy some of the larger sets with the adult critters, but after finding out that they aren't made with a fabric exterior, I'll probably hold off unless I find them at a real bargain price. Either way, though, the kids really love them, and that's what counts!

Crank to spin - hardFeb 19, 2013

This thing looks cute and really works but my 5 yr old had a hard time turning the crank to spin it. It was doable but a bit frustrating.
